Honey's Ragdolls

Many adopters ask us to describe the colors and patterns of Ragdolls, so here is a simple guide!

 

The Ragdoll is a pointed breed, meaning the body is lighter in color than the points (the face, tail, ears, and feet). A traditional, true-blooded Ragdoll is never solid-colored, mink, or sepia, and ALWAYS has blue eyes—no green or yellow allowed. While some organizations issue pedigrees for non-blue-eyed cats, major associations like CFA and CFF do not recognize them as true Ragdolls, and neither do we. At Honeys Ragdolls in the Merrimack Valley, we breed only traditional, true blue-eyed Ragdoll cats.

 

Ragdoll Colors

• Seal Point: Ivory to pale fawn beige body, shading lighter on the chest and tummy. Points, paw pads, and nose leather range from deep brown to brownish-black.

   

• Blue Point: Bluish-white to platinum-grey body with slate or blue-grey points. Nose leather and paw pads are dark blue-grey.

   

• Chocolate Point: Ivory body paired with warm milk chocolate to bittersweet chocolate points. Nose and paw pads feature a sweet brownish-pink tone.

   

• Lilac Point: A rare color featuring a bright white body with pale dove-grey to lavender points that show subtle pinkish undertones.

   

• Red Point (Flame Point): Creamy white body with vibrant, deep orange points. (Note: Red females require a red stud; genetics dictate whether red offspring appear in a litter!)

   

• Cream Point: Soft, creamy white body with pale sand to warm cream points—essentially a delicate, light variation of the red point.

   

Ragdoll Patterns

• Pointed: The ears, face, feet, and tail feature dark, clear contrast against a lighter body.

   

• Mitted: Features classic pointed coloring with distinct white "mitts" on the front and back paws.

   

• Blaze: A distinct white patch or hourglass marking on the forehead, which sometimes extends down to the nose.

   

• Bi-Color: Darker points on the ears, face, and tail, highlighted by an inverted white "V" on the face. The chest, stomach, and legs are white, with lighter shading on the back.

   

• Van: A high-white pattern where dark markings are restricted almost entirely to the top of the head, ears, and tail.

   

• Lynx Point (Tabby Point): Features distinct tabby striping overlaid across the points, including a classic "W" shape on the forehead.

   

• Tortie Point: A multi-colored pattern featuring a mix of red/cream with seal or blue. Torties are almost exclusively female.

   

• Torbie Point: A striking combination of both Lynx striping and Tortie color patches on the points.

   

Keep in mind that Ragdolls reach their full coat color around 2 years of age and finish growing around age 4!
